I'm in my early 30s, and I don't know what part of the country you are in, but I definitely remember the winter of 1993. And the winter of 1996 wasn't much better.
Ah, yes, the Blizzard of '93. We lived in central New York state at the time, and couldn't leave the house for three days, until the plows finally got to our road. Fun times! One of the many reasons I'm glad we escaped from NY a few years ago.
