Everyone who lives around here knows we are supposed to get wind chill temperatures in the neighborhood of -30 degrees F overnight tonight. But Strunk White, Idiot Weatherman, just interrupted my program to remind us not to go outside unless we have appropriate clothing on, or we might get frostbite.
I guess that nixes my plan to sit out on the patio in my swimming trunks, sipping an umbrella cocktail.

I'm sure if Strunk didn't say what to wear there will be an idiot somewhere with inappropriate clothing. Maybe they are cousins.
Of course, there are those of us who wear shorts and t-shirts at every opportunity. During the recent cold snap here in Milwaukee, the only time I wear long pants is at work. On the weekends, if it is really cold, I "might" wear a sweat jacket for a little while, but the t-shirt and shorts are a must.
When people ask me why I don't wear heavier clothing, I tell them that I'm from upstate NY. Most people nod in agreement, especially after I tell them that it feels like summer here...
Just how we all made it through those ignorant years before we had wind chill as a part of the weather report, I'll never know. Ignorant me, I just looked at the thermometer (in Fahrenheit), looked at the tree branches, then dressed accordingly.
I froze to death back in 1957, and again in 1973.

You can always turn the TV off; what I find annoying are the robo calls from my local police department with "weather alerts" and other such stuff. I even went so far as to stop by and ask (politely, I like to add) if I can get removed from the call list.
Nope. So, they continue to use my tax dollars to annoy me.
A few years back, Local Dude took off (intoxicated) on his snowmobile to visit a neighbor. In shorts and a T shirt. Never showed up at his destination. He hit a tree, knocked himself out cold, and died from hypothermia before anyone realized he was missing. It was a super cold night, and only took a few hours. His injuries were not life threatening. Had he been dressed appropriately, he would have survived- searchers would've found him passed out drunk and mildly concussed.
People- wear or carry appropriate clothing! You may not think that you need it when you're leaving the house, but if something unexpected happens, you'll be glad that you were prepared.
