In This New Year (And Beyond)

I hope everyone will take this pledge:

My commitment to each and every dog & cat in my life has always included all of these things. I don't know how to love any other way.

I will always love you and protect you to the best of my ability, because you are an important part of my family.

I will go without to keep you from being in need.

Says the lady whose X-mas giving was seriously pathetic because doggy teeth cleaning is seriously expensive. Especially on the same month that she needed a new box of HeartGuard. And the ramen is totally worth it.

We need a second poster like this with a cat's face on it.

From what I see around me, I thought I was the only one who felt this way. All my animals get the best care possible.

I absolutely love this post.

I'm someone who gets nervous and anxious at the thought of ever owning a dog. I like looking at cute pictures and videos of other people's dogs on the Internet. I even occasionally like to pet a dog (after asking the owner first) if one crosses my path, then the doggie gaga phase passes after mere minutes.

What annoys me are the people who are all like "you have kids, a dog isn't that much work!" or "your kids deserve to have a dog! Just get one!" or "once you get a dog, you'll change your mind!" Um no, no, and no.

I know my limitations and taking care of a dog for life isn't in the cards of me. I'm grateful that there are people out there who love dogs and have that love in their hearts to take them on as family members for a lifetime. You guys are awesome!

Thanks for posting this picture. I wish more animal owners would read and heed this prior to adding to their family.

I wish more people were like you, 10.41am anon, and recognize their limitations prior to getting a pet, not after. I think people see this responsibility in you and that's why they pressure you about a pet because they can see you standing up to the demands of ownership.

I've done volunteer work in shelters, mainly related to cats and exotics. The saddest cases are those people who have to go into nursing homes or hospice, and there is no family left to take care of the animals.

That's why my wife and I have it in our will that the executor will take care of the cats until a new home can be found for them, and we have set aside funds for this purpose. I know that most people can't do this; we are fortunately able to, and it gives us some piece of mind about after we pass on.

Amen. When I get a pet it's a commitment for life.
